Kentucky is home to two highways that have made the list of "most loathed" in the country, and if you've ever driven on either of them, you can understand why.

More Miles than I Can Count

Thanks to a heavy case of wanderlust, I love to travel and I have driven many miles around the country. Whether visiting the Commonwealth or just passing through to another destination, a lot of those miles have been through the state of Kentucky.

Most Loathed Highways

It's safe to say that I was not horribly shocked to see not one but two Kentucky highways find their way onto a "most loathed" list.

The Top Three Are All in California

The folks at Gunther Volvo surveyed 3,000 drivers to rank the top 100 most loathed highways across the country. Perhaps not surprising to anyone, California is home to the top three. With the heavy populations near San Fransisco and Los Angeles, US 101 tops the list. Coming in at the number two position is I-5 which runs the length of the state north to south, including the stretch through downtown LA. The San Diego Freeway, also known as I-405, rounds out the top three and is known to be one of the most congested in the country.

I-75 Near Lexington & Cincinnati

The first Kentucky highway to make the list of 100 "most loathed" comes in at #61. What makes it so loathed? There is a lot of congestion, particularly during rush hour, on I-75 near Lexington, Kentucky, and Cincinnati, Ohio.

I-64 Near Louisville

Farther down in the #74 position is where I-64 lands on the list. The report notes that this highway can be a particular headache near Louisville as it often experiences heavy traffic.

Stay Alert

If driving on either of these roads, stay alert and be patient. In addition to other motorists, you also have to be on the lookout for wildlife and orange barrels. Safe travels!
