Hot off the presses from out friends at CB# 44 News.  A 51-year-old local woman filed a report with the Evansville police department recently after she received death threats from a man she met on a dating website.  This is sick, but unfortunately not that uncommon/

The woman says she met the man — believed to be from Ohio — on the website MeetMe.com  This is not an effort to vilify Meetme.com, this goes with ALL dating websites..

According to the police report, the man asked the woman for money and when she said no he got upset. He said he would cut off her head and find a gang to kill her. (Wouldn't you think the cut off the head part would be enough!!) The woman said she was scared because the man knows where she lives.

Police told her to block the man from her phone, which she said she would do along with removing herself from the dating website.

No one deserve to be terrified like that, but what did she do wrong along the way.  First of all, if you're going to meet someone from a dating site, meet in a very public place.  Then, if it still feels sketchy, and it should, tell the guy you're bringing your BFF along. If he balks at that, cut off communication completely and block his cell number.

This could be an example of catfishing, or an instance of a sick a**hole preying on women online.  If it seems like you've pet Prince Charming, most likely he's quite the opposite.  Sometimes using your judgement isn't enough. Do some home work.

I myself am on a couple of dating sites, and I can tell how hesitant women are to chat. Apparently not the woman in this story, but I'll be she learned from experience.
