The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra is excited to announce that Joshua Bell, the "classical music superstar," will be the featured artist of the Philharmonic's 2015-2016 Toyota's Opening Night Classics concert. The concert will take place at the Victory Theatre on Sunday, September 27 at 4:00 pm.

Joshua Bell is a Grammy-winning talent and one of the finest violinists in the world! He has captured the public's attention like no other classical violinist of his time. Beginning his musical career at the young age of 14, Bell performed with Riccardo Muti and the Philadelphia Orchestra and, just three years later, at the age of 17, Bell made his debut at Carnegie Hall and went on to tour the stages of Europe. Perhaps what sets Bell apart from other classical musicians is his incognito performance in a subway station in Washington, D.C. in 2007.

His interest in film is notable, recording soundtracks for several films, including the Oscar nominated soundtrack for "Ladies in Lavender" (Nigel Hess) as well as all the violin solos in "The Red Violin," which helped the film win an Oscar for Best Original Score (Written by John Corigliano).

The New York Times remarks that, "Mr. Bell stands in no one's shadow," and Bell has shown that he is a one-of-a-kind performer. Hear his stunning virtuosity as he performs Bruch's popular Violin Concerto on his 300-year-old Stradivarius.

This extraordinary concert also features two great orchestral works - Beethoven's "Eroica" Symphony No. 3 (considered one of the grandest and most ambitious orchestral works of its time) and the Brahms "Academic Festival Overture," in tribute to USI on the occasion of their 50th Anniversary.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana (TMMI) continues the tradition of being the opening night concert sponsor for the 15-16 season. Mr. Bell's appearance is made possible by TMMI, the deJong Foundation, the Bower-Suhrheinrich Foundation, Mrs. Phyllis R. Grimm, Dr. Ray and Cynthia Nicholson, Jeanne & Dean Barnett, and other private gifts for this 50th anniversary concert through the University of Southern Indiana Foundation.
