On Tuesday, June 7, Josh was admitted to the ICU at Riley's Children's Hospital in Indianapolis with a diagnosis of a brain tumor. By Wednesday, he had his first surgery where the neurosurgeon placed a shunt in to reduce the pressure and pain in his head. A biopsy of the tumor was done at the same time. After pathology results showed the type of tumor and a series of CT scans and MRIs, Josh then underwent a major 8 ½ hour surgery for removal of the tumor on June 16. Pathology tests were again done on the part of the tumor that was removed and a treatment plan was determined. Josh has a rare type of brain tumor with only 70 reported cases worldwide. He will undergo chemotherapy treatments in Indianapolis and also Proton Therapy radiation treatments in Bloomington, IN for the remainder of 2011.
