Chris Cornell was cremated Tuesday, with close friends and family standing by.

According to TMZ, his wife, Vicky, as well as his brother, Joey Ramone’s widow Linda Ramone and singer J.D. King were at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery for his cremation. The group is expected to gather again with Cornell’s extended circle on Friday as previously reported, where they will hold a private service in which his ashes will be buried.

Fans will reportedly be able to visit the burial site after the service. The family has noted they would announce any other plans to allow fans to pay their respects to Cornell.

The Seattle rocker was found dead in his Detroit hotel room in the early hours of May 18 following a performance with Soundgarden. His death was ruled a suicide by hanging, which his family has disputed, saying they believe it to be a result of the prescribed medication Ativan.

“Without the results of toxicology tests, we do not know what was going on with Chris – or if any substances contributed to his demise,” Cornell family attorney Kirk Pasich argued in a statement released May 19. “Chris, a recovering addict, had a prescription for Ativan and may have taken more Ativan than recommended dosages.”

Members of his bands, Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog have paid tribute to their late friend, while fans have turned Seattle’s Sound Garden, from which the band drew it’s name, into a memorial for the singer.

Prior to Cornell’s death, Soundgarden had been working on material for both new and archival releases, according to guitarist Kim Thayil.
