Prepare for ‘The Disaster Artist’ With a Free Screening of ‘The Room’
If you missed out on the cult phenomenon that is The Room, fear not: A24 is here to ensure that you are fully schooled on Tommy Wiseau’s disasterpiece and thus better able to appreciate James Franco in The Disaster Artist. The studio is hosting screenings of The Room nationwide next week, and the best part? They’re free. Better still? Those who attend the screenings will receive invites to early screenings of The Disaster Artist, too.
Jamie Lee Curtis Teases ‘Halloween’ Reunion With a Spooky New Photo
Few celebrities are able to get into the Halloween spirit like Jamie Lee Curtis, the star of the classic horror franchise named after the holiday itself. Sure, Gwyneth Paltrow’s Se7en costume this year was inspired, and LeBron James makes for a fantastic Pennywise, but you really can’t top Jamie Lee Curtis posing with iconic boogeyman Michael Myers for a new Halloween teaser photo…on Halloween.
Weekend Box Office: ‘Jigsaw’ Scares Off ‘Boo 2!’ With a Weak Halloween Opening
Jigsaw may have won the weekend, but don’t count on a full revival of Saw just yet. Although you’d think audiences would be flocking to the theater for a few pre-holiday thrills, this Halloween weekend was incredibly weak overall. Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! and Geostorm round out the top three at the box office, but low grosses make these “wins” feel more like consolation prizes just for showing up.
You Can Watch the Terrifying Opening Scene From ‘IT’ Right Now
IT is the biggest horror film of the year, and if you still haven’t seen Andy Muschietti’s surprisingly great adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel (doubtful, you’re smart people), then perhaps the opening scene from the movie will persuade you…or maybe it’ll just reinforce your decision to stay the heck at home in your comfy, cozy, sewer clown-free environment. Beep beep!
‘Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond’ Trailer Reveals Jim Carrey’s Transformation Into Andy Kaufman
“For twenty years, the behind-the-scenes footage has been withheld…until now.” So reads the opening line of the official synopsis for Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond. That line is also featured in the first trailer for the upcoming Netflix Original film, which uses previously suppressed footage from the set of Man on the Moon to explore Jim Carrey’s wild transformation into his comedic idol, Andy Kaufman, for Milos Forman’s 1999 biopic.
‘Beetlejuice 2’ Summons a New Writer (And Yes, It’s Still in Development)
Cinema legend has it that if you say his name three times, Beetlejuice will appear. Given how often the Beetlejuice sequel has been discussed in the press, we should have like, eight more of these movies by now. And although the long-gestating project remains unofficial, Warner Bros. has brought on a new writer to take a crack at writing a screenplay worthy of luring Tim Burton and Michael Keaton back for more spooky fun.
Gaze Unto Gerard Butler’s ‘Dracula 2000’ Audition Tape and You Will Know Real Horror
Admittedly, this old video of Gerard Butler auditioning for the lead in Dracula 2000 isn’t new to the internet, but it is entirely appropriate viewing for this spoooooky season. It is so hilariously terrifying that you could easily put it on a YouTube playlist for your Halloween party and not a single guest would question why “Gerard Butler Dracula Audition” was queued up between “The Monster Mash” and a compilation of Freddy Krueger kills.
‘Fantastic Beasts’ Sequel Finalizes Cast With Jessica Williams and More
We’ve got a good news, bad news situation here, friends. First, the good news — which is actually great news: An official casting announcement for the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has apparated online, revealing several new and returning cast members for Newt Scamander’s next adventure. Among the newcomers are a pair of mysterious roles played by Jessica Williams and Claudia Kim.
‘Gerald’s Game’ Review: Stephen King’s Most Challenging Book Gets a Surprisingly Great Adaptation
IT may be the surprise box office hit of 2017, but it’s not the most surprising Stephen King adaptation of the year. That honor goes to Gerald’s Game, Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of what is perhaps the most un-adaptable novel in King’s bibliography — not necessarily in terms of the story’s graphic content, but by virtue of its narrative conceit. Approximately 98 percent of Gerald’s Game centers on one woman and her inner monologue as she desperately attempts to free herself from a dire situation.
Rami Malek Becomes Freddie Mercury in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ First Look
It was beginning to seem as though a Queen biopic would never come to pass. Sacha Baron Cohen (who, let’s be honest, would be perfect) was attached to the project at one time, but creative differences with the surviving band members ultimately forced him to drop out. But after years of will they or won’t they development hell, Bohemian Rhapsody is finally in production with Mr. Robot star Rami Malek portraying rock icon Freddie Mercury — and there’s actual photographic evidence to prove it.
Jared Leto Is Not Pleased With WB’s Desire to Start Seeing Other Jokers
Jared Leto is like that one dude you date who’s kind of a hot mess. He’s really fun and spontaneous, and sure, okay, he really opens you up to new experiences but his sense of humor is weird as hell and he makes some questionable fashion choices. Let’s say the “you” in this scenario is Warner Bros., and you’ve grown a little weary of Leto’s dubious sense of mischief, and also a little tired of all your friends clowning on him on Twitter — so you float an idea that should appeal to his “free spirit”: An open relationship. He’s free to keep making his Joker movies, and you’re free to see other Jokers.
‘The Crow’ Reboot Resurrected at Sony
If you had asked me about my five-year plan back in 2012, it definitely would not have included “still writing about The Crow reboot” — but here we are, in 2017, and I am still writing about this wacky movie, which was all but dead and buried when Relativity Media declared bankruptcy and sent several developing projects into the Hollywood ether. Then someone at Sony — probably the sentient pair of Bad Idea Jeans that keeps green-lighting ill-advised Spider-Man spinoffs and stealth Venom prequels — read an article about how the ’90s are cool again and decided to resurrect this Crow reboot once and for all.
