It's become something of a summer tradition in the Tri-state when dachshunds take over the racetrack at Ellis Park. And that tradition continues this weekend.

32 dogs are looking to win the coveted "Elli Trophy". The first two trials will be held today, August 20th, and the last two trials will be held on Sunday, August 21st. There will be 8 dogs per race. 1st and 2nd place from each race will advance to the Wiener Dog finals on August 27th!

While you can't win cash by placing a wager on the Wiener Dog Races, buying wagers will benefit local non-profit groups. If you pick the winner on your $2 "wager" you get an exclusive 2016 Wiener Dog Races shirt! If you don't want to test your luck, the shirts are available for purchase after the 2nd Wiener Dog Race of the day for just $10.

The money raised through wagering and shirt sales, today, will go to benefit It Takes A Village Canine Rescue. On Sunday, those proceeds will go towards Pets 4 Vets. The following weekend during the finals, The Arc of Evansville will benefit from proceeds.

There is a threat of rain on Saturday, but the dogs will race rain or shine. Keep an eye on Ellis Park's social media in the case of Severe Weather. Admission is free and parking is free as well at Ellis Park.

Come out, cheer on the dogs, help raise funds for local nonprofits, and take part in a Tri-State tradition this weekend at Ellis Park!
