Why Doug Jones Is the Coolest Person You Will Ever Meet
Doug Jones is a person that needs way more recognition than he probably gets...
For those of you that don't know, Doug Jones is an Indiana native. He was born in Indianapolis and went to Ball State, and has been secretly gracing our screens for 30 years and you might not have even noticed.
I say 'secretly' because Jones rarely shows his actual face on screen. His most notable roles are Abe Sapien in the Hellboy movies, the Gentlemen in the Emmy winning Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode, Billy Butcherson in Hocus Pocus, Fauno and Pale Man in Pan's Labyrinth, the Silver Surfer in the Fantastic Four sequel, and most recently Saru in Star Trek Discovery, and the Amphibian Man in the Oscar winning movie the Shape of Water.
You know him. You just didn't know you knew him.
And I got to meet him this past weekend in Lexington, KY at the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention.
He. Is. the. Nicest. Human. Being. You. Will. Ever. Meet.
We was super nice and talked to my friend and I about Indiana. We were like "We're from Evansville" and he was like "I know that place! I'm from Indiana! I went to Ball State!" and we were like "WE KNOW!!!!" (We were fangirling a little bit...)
I don't remember the conversation we had in it's entirety. I just remember talking about Hocus Pocus (because I'm a huge fan) and I got him to sign my book.
What book?
Oh, just THIS BOOK.
It's Winifred's book from Hocus Pocus. I got Billy Butcherson to sign Winifred's book. On his spell page. I'm still trying to process this information days later...
And that was all on Friday.
On Sunday I went back dressed as Sarah Sanderson from Hocus Pocus and did this.
Which is now the highlight of my life.
He is the nicest person, and one of the most humble actors I've ever met at a convention. If you ever get the chance to meet him, I don't care how long the line is, get in it and wait, because it will be worth it.
