The Wedding Band — Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett's classic rock covers group with bandmate Robert Trujillo plus Whitfield CraneJoey Castillo and Doc Coyle — delivered a nostalgic set peppered with Black Sabbath and AC/DC tunes last Friday (July 26) at Cosmo Music's Cosmopolitan Music Hall in Ontario, Canada, as was first promised by the musical instrument retailer last month.

Tickets for the special event were $300 a piece, which included a meet and greet with Hammett, or $200 for the show only.

Watch fan-captured footage of the gig down toward the bottom of this post.

And how did the side band involving members of Metallica, Ugly Kid Joe, Bad Wolves and a former Queens of the Stone Age drummer first get together? Thankfully, lead singer Crane offered explanation.

"This band — it's a weird band,” he said during the set that was covered by Billboard. “We played a wedding in Hawaii under a year ago, then we played another show at a Pipeline Masters thing [a surfing competition, also in Hawaii]. So now, somehow, we’ve become a band, which is just really fun-based. Fun is good."

The act certainly stayed true to their word, as the initial announcement of the event underscored the Sabbath, AC/DC and Billy Idol selections that would be performed at the show near Toronto.

"The Wedding Band is not just your typical cover band," Cosmo Music announced in June. "But the band members are certainly not typical. We're extremely excited to welcome Kirk Hammett joined by his good friends Rob Trujillo, Whitfield Crane, and Joey Castillo for a special event. This unlikely bunch is coming to play all your favorite classic covers from bands like AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Billy Idol and more."

And boy did they. Meanwhile, Metallica’s "WorldWired Tour" continues, with Hammett and Trujillo getting plenty of covers action with their onstage "doodles." Get ticketing info here. (Fun is good.)
