The Vanderburgh County Humane Society is in a cat crisis. While that term may sound a little funny, the situation is very serious and, dare I say, "dire."

As Executive Director Kendall Paul mentions nearly every Thursday when she stops by for our Pet of the Week segment, the VHS is literally overrun with cats. Often taking more in than they adopt or foster out. They are well beyond capacity and if some of these animals don't find homes soon, the VHS will face no other choice than to put some of them down to make room for the countless others coming in.

But, you can help prevent this from happening by either adopting or fostering one or more of these cats, and the VHS is offering a special discount through the remainder of the month to hopefully make that decision easier.

Through the end of the month (October 31st, 2019), adoption fees for all cats will be 50% off. That means $20 for cats and $30 for kittens or declawed adults. Despite the discount, each cat will still get everything that comes with the normal adoption fee including being spayed or neutered and up to date adoption fees.

If you've been thinking about adopting recently, but weren't quite convinced to move forward for whatever reason, hopefully this plea and discounted price will be the thing that tips the scales for you. The VHS is open from Noon to 6:00 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
