The Vanderburgh wants to get some sweet animals into good homes in time for the holidays! You can help! If you've been considering adding a furry member to your family,  I can't recommend a rescued pet enough!

Here's what the VHS has to say about their upcoming Black Friday event:

To help move solid black dogs & cats out of the shelter and get them into homes in time for the holidays, VHS is jumping on the Black Friday bandwagon and reducing these animals’ adoption fees by HALF.

This means that black dogs will be adoptable for $55, black/mostly black cats for $20, black/mostly black kittens for $30, and black/mostly black rabbits for $20. This includes spay/neuter surgery and a registered microchip for all animals, plus vaccinations, testing, and deworming for dogs & cats.

The VHS loses money on every single adoption, even at regular price. Regular fees (double the amounts above) don’t even begin to cover the cost of each animal’s stay. Each animal receives over $200 worth of care on its first day in the shelter, not to mention the daily cost of food, medication, staff wages, overhead, and more. These costs are offset by monetary donations from the public, as the VHS does not receive any support whatsoever from city or county taxes or any national agencies such as HSUS or ASPCA.

The shelter currently has more than 60 dogs, 20 rabbits, and 200 cats in its care. Plenty of these animals are black or mostly black, with more scheduled to come in each day.

Doors open at 12:00 noon on Friday, November 23rd for the Black Friday “doorbusters.” Adoption hours are 12:00-6:00 Friday & Saturday. Families interested in adopting should stop by the shelter during these hours to fill out an adoption application and visit with animals. Adoption fees are payable with cash, Visa, Mastercard, or Discover. Any approved family can adopt from the VHS, regardless of whether or not they live in Vanderburgh County. People regularly travel from out of state to adopt pets. Please keep in mind that pets who are not yet spayed or neutered cannot leave the building until surgery is complete. This is included in the adoption fee.
