According to a press release from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's office, on the afternoon of Saturday, February 1, 2020, a homeowner on the northside of the county fired a single gunshot after coming home and finding an intruder inside their home. According to the press release:

At 3:06 PM on February 1, 2020 Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence in northern Vanderburgh County along North Green River Road near Boonville-New Harmony Road for a possible burglary in progress. The dispatch report indicated that the homeowner arrived home to find an unknown person inside of the residence. The homeowner, who was legally carrying a firearm at the time, confronted the suspect and fired a single round from a handgun before chasing the intruder out of the home.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene and is still at large. The suspect was described as "concealing their head at the time of the incident, was described as a person with slender build, wearing a black hoodie, and blue jeans."
