Warmer weather means a lot of things in Indiana. It means we can get outside and enjoy all the activities we love to do. It means the leaves are back on the trees and the flowers are starting to bloom again. The birds are chirping and our yards are changing back to a lush green after being a yellowish-brown color for the past four to five months. It also means the return of road construction on roads all across the state and the spouting of Indiana's unofficial state flower, the dreaded orange barrel, along with the digital signs telling us about upcoming lane restrictions that are going to slow us down. A couple of those signs popped up on the east side of Evansville within the last few weeks, but the messages they display are giving drivers a chuckle instead of a groan whether they intended to or not.

As drivers on the Lloyd Expressway (also known as Highway 66 to those who don't live here) are nearing the exits to Green River Road in either direction, they're greeted by one of those digital signs to let them know they should expect possible delays at night due to repaving work that's being done on Green River.

Due to the limited number of lights and space available on the signs, instead of reading, "Green River Road Night Paving," they had to abbreviate "Green River Road" which makes the signs read like this:

GRR..

If that does spell out exactly how we all feel when we see these signs, I don't know what does. I have to think that whoever programmed the sign had to have known how it would be read that way but didn't have any other option for getting the message across. I also like to think they definitely knew that's how it was going to be read and thought the least they could do was give us a little chuckle since they were going to be making the commute a little difficult. If that's the case, then kudos to whoever you are. Mission accomplished.
