The Umbrella Academy has been renewed for a second season by Netflix, ScreenCrush has reported. The show, the TV adaptation of former My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way's graphic novel series of the same name, first premiered on the streaming service in February.

Led by an ensemble cast including Ellen Page, Tom Hopper and David Castañeda, The Umbrella Academy's first season contained ten episodes. That's the same number of Season 2 episodes ordered by Netflix, Deadline noted, with production on the new season set to begin this summer in Toronto, Canada.

Showrunner and executive producer Steve Blackman will return for Season 2 alongside fellow executive producers Jeff F. King, Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg. Way and co-creator Gabriel Bá will co-executive produce.

Earlier this year, Way revealed that some of his Umbrella Academy characters were partially inspired by his ex-bandmates in My Chemical Romance, which included his brother Mikey Way, Frank Iero and Ray Toro.

"Being in a band is like being in a dysfunctional family," he said. "There's little bits of me in all the characters, there's bits of some of the guys in some of those characters and the different roles that we would play in the band and how those roles would change sometimes. We were in a big pressure cooker of fame and notoriety and the characters experience that in the comic and the show."
