Indiana is no stranger to severe weather, but a new report has revealed some alarming tornado risk rankings. Using data collected from FEMA, analysts evaluated nearly 950 counties across the United States to determine where tornado damage is most likely to occur in 2025.

In recent years, the number of tornadoes in Indiana has far exceeded the annual average of 22 per year. In 2025 alone, we have already experienced more than 50 tornadoes in Indiana, putting us on track for a very dangerous year.

What the FEMA-Based Risk Rankings Mean for You

HomeGnome used data collected from FEMA to evaluate almost 950 counties across the nation, utilizing six primary factors. The company then ranked the counties based on their calculated likelihood to experience tornado damage.

We considered six key factors, including tornado frequency, expected annual losses, average home age, and whether local building codes account for tornado resilience.

Where Tornado Risk Is Highest in Indiana in 2025

Madison County ranks 20th among Indiana counties for likelihood to experience a tornado, while ranking 476th nationwide out of the nearly 950 counties analyzed in the study.
