The sun was shining, and despite warmer-than-normal temperatures for the end of September, thousands upon thousands of Tri-State residents made their way to Eastland Mall to show their support for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and help raise money to bring an end to breast cancer.

Unfortunately, we all know someone who is fighting breast cancer. For me, it's two of my aunts on my dad's side of the family, one a blood relative, the other through marriage. My wife's grandma and one of her great aunts have fought toe-to-toe with it. There are probably one to two I'm not thinking of right this minute, but the good news is in all four of these cases, they've not only fought it head on, they're all survivors thanks to the efforts of the Susan G. Komen Foundation and their mission of raising money for research, treatment, and eventually a cure.

Sunday's More Than Pink Walk wasn't a replacement of the annual Race for the Cure, but more of an evolution. The course was reduced to one mile around the Eastland Mall property instead of the long-standing 5K route that wound its way around Evansville's east side. The staging area where the race began and ended was also expanded to include games, food trucks, and information on the variety of services Komen provides those facing the fight of their lives.

If you weren't able to attend this year's event take a look through the photo gallery below, and visit the Komen Evansville website to learn more about what the organization provides for breast cancer patients, and make a monetary donation any time, year around.
