We are in the midst of hunting season. If you're looking for something to gift that special hunter in your life, this might be a strange, yet interesting idea.

I have recently become a big fan of whiskey and bourbon. I went from strictly drinking beer anytime I had an adult beverage to now mixing things up with the deliciousness from a barrel. Usually I go after Jim Beam Vanilla because it is delicious and mixes well with pretty much anything. However, I have been branching out to try new whiskeys/ bourbons, and I found one that caught my attention for a very strange reason.

There's a distillery in New Hampshire is releasing a new whiskey later this month that tastes like...wait for it...deer! Yes, deer flavored whiskey is a thing now. Now, I have had venison and I have clearly had whiskey, but I never thought about pairing the two together like this. It's intriguing to say the least.

The Deerslayer Venison Whiskey Reservation made by Steven Grasse and Tamworth Distilling and Mercantile, will be released on November 14th. It's 99 proof, so it is a little potent. They added venison as they were aging the whiskey, so it has a bit of a savory and smoky flavor. According to Tamworth Distillery's description,

The Deerslayer is crafted with three-year-old white wheat whiskey that allows the venison flavor to truly shine and distilled with slow-smoked red deer venison and seasonal ingredients including porcini mushrooms, cranberries, juniper berries, and green peppercorns.

If it's something you think you might want to try, you can reserve your $65 bottle of venison whiskey here.

This isn't the first strange whiskey that they have released either. They released one called  Eau de Musc. Sounds fancy, right? But what is it? It's a whiskey made with beaver castoreum. This is where things take a turn south...literally.  Castoreum is the anal secretion beavers use to mark their territory. I don't even want to know how they came up with this idea, but if you're feeling brave you can find out how to get your hands on some here.
