The Green River Distilling Co. Returns to Owensboro, Kentucky

When O.Z. Tyler Distillery opened in 2016, there was never really a long-term plan for that name to stick.  Today, bourbon fans here in the western Kentucky are learning the reason why.  As of this morning, the Green River Distilling Co. is back and has returned to his original Owensboro, Kentucky home.

The Green River Distilling Co. was founded by John W. McCulloch way back in 1885.  In addition to gaining national and international acclaim for its whiskey, the distillery has survived over a century's worth of trials and tribulations: Prohibition, fire, multiple owners and significant structural decline.

Today, it has been officially resurrected!  According to an official press release from the company, CEO Simon Burch worked closely with John McCulloch's great-grandson Rob to rename the distillery and reclaim its golden tradition here in Daviess County.  McCulloch says, “I’ve always wanted the distillery’s name back at its original location in Owensboro. It completes the story my great-grandfather started in 1885.”

Green River Distilling Co. is the fourth largest independent bourbon distillery in the United States.  It produces 90,000 barrels of bourbon annually. We're thrilled to be home to it here in Owensboro, for many reasons.  A primary reason is that it has tremendous tourist appeal.  The distillery is the Westernmost spot on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and welcomes visitors to town from all around the world.
