The ‘Deadpool 2’ Extended Cut Is Just Over 2 Hours Long
If you loved Deadpool 2 but wished there was more (by today’s bloated superhero movie standards, its tight 119 minutes make it practically an experimental indie short film), you won’t have to wait long to see the extended cut, which is only just over 2 hours long but includes way more Domino and way more of DP’s elaborate suicide attempts.
When CinemaBlend talked to director David Leitch about a possible extended cut, he revealed that he’d only needed to shave off 12 minutes from its runtime for the theatrical cut of the movie.
It was funny, because we shot... it was like an 83 day shoot, and it was a lot of material. But I kept telling the studio, and I kept telling Ryan, I'm like, 'No, the director's cut going to come in at like 2:12.' And he's like, 'No way!' And I'm like, 'It is! It's going to come in at 2:12. I want to make it tight. I want you guys to get a really tight first look at the film. I don't think it needs to be bloated and I'm not that type of filmmaker.'
There were plenty of bits in the original version that needed to be shaved off just for the sake of having a really tight movie, but Leitch will include most of that in the extended version.
The suicide scene is in there, and there's a scene in the mansion in the kitchen over breakfast. There's some extra Domino stuff. There's a lot of fun little bits, and then a lot of alts! We're looking for every place we can put an alt.
One scene I’d particularly love to see happens during the brief period when Deadpool tries to join the X-Men and goes through the fridge labeling all of his food. “And so he’s putting Velcro labels on, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead is not buying his go-straight routine,” writer Rhett Reese said. “She’s like, ‘I see through you, you’re still full of shit.’ It was fun.”
Deadpool 2 is now playing.
