Sounds crazy, doesn't it.  What if your 12 year old daughter came home with a tattoo that 'wasn't' the temporary kind?   You'd Sh*t, I"m sure.  Well, that is axactly what has happened in New York state near the capital of Albany.  An 18-year-old Whitehall woman was arrested Tuesday after allegedly giving tattoos to a 12 and 13-year-old girl.  Shaelynn Gordon is facing two misdemeanor charges of Tattooing a Child Less Than 18 after giving two young girls tattoos with a tattoo gun she owns at her home on November 19th.  Whitehall Police started the investigation after the girls went to the Whitehall Central School's nurse concerned about the tattoos.  The tattoos were scabbing, which the girls did not know was a complication from tattooing. There does not appear any problems with the tattoos other than that.   One girl had a tattoo of a heart, and the other a tattoo of a star. Gordon does not run a tattoo business, and did not charge for administering the tattoos.  Police say they are not sure if Gordon used a clean needle.  Fantastic!    Sounds like some tattoo artists I have known in my time.  There used to be a shop around here which I will not name, that had a tattoo artist who used a guitar string instead of a needle.  Def learned that technique in the state pen.  Tattoos are a very personal choice, as is any type of body modification.  Damn near all the shops around here observe  the proper health codes and pracctices.   I have heard of a couple of them that do not however.   Be informed if you're inexperienced in the world of body art.  Read up in advance.  Your artist should use a clean needle every time.  The tattoo area shoule be clean and wiped down with an antibacterial product.  Word of mouth is a good way to pick an artist too.  If you're consistently hearing bad stuff about a certain shop or artist, chances are where there's smoke there's fire.  Don't get inked up in the kitchen of some scratcher, like the little girls in this story.  Gross!  Last but not least, just because someone is a good artist doesn't mean they are a good 'tattoo' artist.  Conversly,  just because someone knows how to tattoo does not make them a good artist.  All they may be capable of is tattooing some flash art of a tribal butterfly.  Get your money's worth.  Get a tattoo you can be proud of for life... and, destroy all scratchers.  Here's a great website to provide further warnings about bad tats!
