St. Louis Zoo Announces a New Safari Experience is In The Works
How fun would it be to load up into a bus and drive around to get an up-close view of animals in their own habitat? Sounds pretty awesome, and that kind of experience is exactly what the St. Louis Zoo is working on adding.
St. Louis Zoo WildCare Exhibit
The St. Louis Zoo recently made the announcement that they are in the beginning stages of the development of their WildCare exhibit. The exhibit will be a very large wildlife park, that will be set up in pasture style so safaris can take place in the exhibit.
In an update on St. Louis Zoo's website they announced that animals are slated to start arriving at the WildCare Exhibit in early 2023 for a pilot pasture, and with a build this big, they are expecting the exhibit to be open in 2027. So we still have a few years before we can enjoy WildCare, but what they're bringing to the St. Louis Zoo sounds phenomenal.
Safaris at WildCare
According to their website, when finished, WildCare will be a fully immersive experience for guests. They're planning to offer two 30-minute safaris where people can load up in a vehicle similar to the size of a bus, and have a guided tour where experts will talk about the behaviors of the animals. They will also have special walking paths where guests can go on a walking safari experience.
On top of these immersive experiences, they are also going to have a full-on interactive "zooseum" which they describe as
"This 5,000-8,000 square foot interactive indoor zoo-museum-science center that will use augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) as well as other technologies to help guests feel how animals experience the world."
On top of that, they'll also offer glamping, giraffe feeding, a restaurant, and much more. WildCare will truly be a fully immersive experience.
What animals will be in the exhibit?
You can expect to see many of the animals you'd normally see on a safari experience in the WildCare exhibit, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, camels, ostriches, white rhinos, antelopes, and more. You can see the full list and learn more about this upcoming exhibit, here.
