Saturday May 11th is the annual Spirit Fest to benefit the Spirit Medical fund. Spirit Fest is a fun all day event that's family friendly. Here's what the Facebook event says:

This Spirit Festival is a pet and kid friendly event to raise money for the Spirit Medical Fund which provides funding for much needed veterinary services for sick and injured stray animals as well as victims of animal cruelty that are served by Evansville Animal Care & Control. We will have horse rides with pictures, bounce house, kids games, great food and MUCH more.

If you haven't heard of the Spirit Medical fund, allow me to enlighten you, it's truly an amazing service for animals in our community!

The SPIRIT MEDICAL FUND was established after a brave little dachshund mix, later named Spirit, survived a horrific ordeal of animal cruelty.  Spirit was found at the Oakhill Cemetery around Halloween 2000.  She had been doused with gasoline, set on fire, and left to die.  When found, she was close to death.  Although she was in very poor health, she still had the will to live.  In order for this to be possible, she needed costly medical treatments.  The community reached out and provided us with the needed money.  This was the beginning of the SPIRIT MEDICAL FUND.
