Now that flood waters are receding, here's how residents can dispose of their used sandbags.
Southern Indiana Banned Together to Sandbag Against the Flood
Last week much of the area was in a panic as we prepared for flood waters across Southern Indiana. Many county emergency management agencies across area, including in Warrick and Vanderburgh Counties made sandbags available to those who needed them, and one local business, Mulzer Crushed Stone, made sand available for free to help residents hold off flood waters.

Sandbag Disposal Has Been Set Up in Newburgh
According to a press release shared with us from the Town of Newburgh, a sandbag disposal site has been set up to help residents get rid of their sandbags properly.
What To Do With Used Sandbags
Used sandbags - those that have been contaminated with flood water - can be brought to the parking lot of the Mulzer Baseball Field, located in Indiana 662 on Newburgh's westside. Mulzer Crushed Stone will accept all types of sand at this location.
How to Dispose of Used Sand Properly
When disposing of used sandbags, residents are asked to cut open the sandbag and empty its contents into the sand pile. Once emptied, the used bags should be placed in the provided dumpster on site.
Ideas to Repurpose Unused Sandbags After the Flood
If you have unused sandbags, meaning bags that have not come in contact with flood water, the Town of Newburgh says, you do not have to dispose of the sand. They offer alternative uses including adding it to your flower beds at home, using it for snow and ice control next winter, or using it to set a base for paving blocks. They also say that you can keep them in a dry location out of sunlight for future use as well.
If you have any questions about sandbag disposal, you can email townmanager@newburgh-in.gov or call 812-853-1720.
