After rejoining Guns N Roses two years ago and playing festivals, arenas and stadiums worldwide, legendary axe-man Slash has returned to playing solo shows with his longtime cohorts -- Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators.

The guitarist played a private show at the Whisky a Go Go -- a club GNR used to frequently play in their early days -- in Los Angeles Tuesday night (Sept. 11). The following day (Sept. 12), Slash, Kennedy and the Conspirators rocked the Jimmy Kimmel Live stage and completing their week of Hollywood festivities, they returned to the Whisky Thursday night (Sept. 13) for a show open to the general public before heading down the coast to Del Mar for the Kaaboo festival this weekend.

Before openers Hillbilly Herald took the stage, one of Slash's favorite albums, Aerosmith's Toys In The Attic, was playing to get the crowd hyped. They came out rocking with a loud 35 minute set that included a cover of Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild." Herald, who sang into a unique mic stand made up of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer cans, sounded like a blend of Bon Scott and Lemmy, with the persona of an old school punk rocker ready to get right in the audience's face. It was an energetic set that brought the vibe of the room up for Slash and crew.

Then it came time for the night's main event, with Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators digging into past favorites and weaving in material from their upcoming disc, Living the Dream. The show consisted of 22 songs -- notably, the only GNR song was a raucous performance of “Rocket Queen” (during the song, Post Malone was seen rocking out and recording the performance on his phone). The band did not play any Velvet Revolver songs; on past tours they would generally play "Slither." Clearly, Slash is comfortable with his current band's discography, and it showed in his setlist.

The band took the stage right on time at 10PM, playing a two-hour set. Slash, sporting an Alice Cooper t-shirt and picking between his arsenal of Les Pauls and Gibson double necks, led his band through a straight-up rock show with minimal stage production, seemingly enjoying the chance to get back to the roots of playing sweaty club shows.

The band opened the night with a stellar rendition of "Avalon," and also turned up the energy for such staples as "Standing in the Sun," "Bent to Fly" and "You're a Lie." The new stuff, tracks like "Mind Your Manners" and "Driving Rain," fit perfectly within the set. The band also pulled out "Starlight," which was the first track that Kennedy and Slash ever wrote together.

On Sept. 21, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators will release their third album titled Living the Dream. You can pre-order the disc here and keep an eye out for the band on tour at these stops.
