Pearl Jam are about to enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for their stellar catalog of original recordings, but the guys have been known to deliver some excellent covers as well. They just added to their resume of covers taking on the Brandi Carlile song "Again Today" for an upcoming War Child benefit album saluting Carlile's music.

The original Carlile song appeared on her hit album The Story and was a more somber, sparse and emotional track. For Pearl Jam's version, they give the song a fresh update, making it into more of a full on rocker, with drums pounding away and guitars pushing the track forward. It's a definite change of direction in sound for the cut.

As stated, Pearl Jam covered the song for a War Child benefit album. Cover Stories: Brandi Carlile Celebrates 10 Years of The Story - An Album to Benefit War Child is due on May 5 via Legacy Recordings, with a variety of acts taking on tracks from Carlile's album. Adele, The Avett Brothers, Dolly Parton, Jim James, Kris Kristofferson and more also appear on the disc, with proceeds going to War Child U.K.'s efforts to protect and educate children in war-torn countries.

Past Pearl Jam covers that have generated some buzz include "Crazy Mary" for the Sweet Relief: A Benefit for Victoria Williams compilation, "Last Kiss" which appeared on the No Boundaries: A Benefit for Kosovo Refugees set and "Love Reign O'er Me" for the Reign Over Me soundtrack.

Pearl Jam will enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this week. It was recently announced that Neil Young, who was set to induct the band, had fallen ill, so retired Late Show host David Letterman, a longtime supporter of Pearl Jam, will handle the responsibilities of welcoming Pearl Jam into the Rock Hall.
