There are a few ways to have an SNL sketch become "memorable". But the #1 way to make it an instant classic? When EVERYONE breaks. Case in point: Last night's "Close Encounter" sketch with host Ryan Gosling.

The sketch starts out with three "small town" people being interviewed by the government after being abducted by aliens, and Kate McKinnon's character did NOT have the same experience as her two buddies.

The whole sketch is a slow escalation of "who will break first?" You can see Aidy Braynt holding in a smile at 1:03 and she tries to hold in her laughter so much that she almost starts crying at one point.  At 1:15 Kate McKinnon almost lets out a giggle with her "I don't think I was dealing with the top brass" line. And at 3:44 you can hear either Aidy or Bobby loosing it off camera (if you listen carefully you can even hear a snort of laughter.)

I don't know what started the giggles...Kate's splayed legs showing off her camel toe in those too tight mom jeans, her descriptions of the events, or just Kate McKinnon in general (maybe all three), but once that giggle train got going it took off at full speed. And for that, SNL, I thank you for this sweet gem.
