Metallica is getting a Nobel Prize. Seriously.

Metallica are going to be receiving Sweden's Polar prize, which is, like, the biggest award you could ever get as a musician. It is the "Nobel Prize of Music". This is way bigger than being put in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or winning a Grammy (and having them actually air it. Yeah, I'm looking at you, Grammys...)

They are the first metal band to ever receive this award.

“Not since Wagner’s emotional turmoil and Tchaikovsky’s cannons has anyone created music that is so physical and furious, and yet still so accessible. Through virtuoso ensemble playing and their use of extremely accelerated tempos, Metallica have taken rock music to places it had never been before.”

They also went on to compare Metallica's music to Valhalla, which is the biggest complement you could ever get from a Swede, in my opinion.

Metallica will get 1 million krona (which is about $111,500) and said they will be donating it all to charity. Specifically, to All Within My Hands, which is a charity that supports organizations that are dedicated to issues relating to poverty, youth music programs, and also pediatric cancer.

They will receive their prize this June in Stockholm at the official ceremony.

CONGRATULATIONS, METALLICA!
