It's almost time for a new year to start, and as 2019 comes to a close, I thought I'd look back at the music that defined the year for me personally.

There was a lot of great music that came out in 2019, however these 5 albums are the ones that really defined the year for me. It's funny how music is one of those things that a certain song, or certain album can take you back in time. Sometimes music can even take you back to a certain moment.  These are the 5 albums that when I hear songs from them, they'll take me right back to 2019.

1) Baroness- Gold & Grey

Top picks from the album: Tourniquet, I'd do Anything, and Throw Me an anchor

This is hands down my favorite album to come out in 2019.  I think it's because Baroness has a way with their songs of really conveying emotions. 2019 was a really hard year for me personally, I dealt with a lot.  This album hit the nail on the head every single time.  So that's why this is my favorite album to come out in 2019.

2) Slipknot- We Are Not Your kind

Top picks from the album: Nero Forte & Solway Firth

Slipknot really nailed it with this one! It's one of those albums I can throw on and listen through start to finish.  There isn't a song on this album I don't like.  Currently, it's my favorite to turn up full blast when I'm in the gym.

3) Rammstein- Untitled album

Top picks from the album: Zeig Dich and Radio

We've waited 10 years for a new studio album from Rammstein, and I'm so glad 2019 was able to give us a new album from them. Catchy hooks, gritty riffs, it's everything I've come to love and expect from Rammstein.

4) Tool- Fear Innoculum

Top Picks from the album: Pneuma and 7empest

It took 13 years, but we finally got a new Tool album in 2019! No doubt this was one of the most talked about albums of the year, especially with all the hype surrounding the release.  Besides all that, it genuinely is just a solid album I can turn on and listen to start to finish.

5) Korn- The Nothing

Top Picks from the album: Cold and Idiosyncrasy

One thing I like about Korn is they know what works.  When the album dropped there was a sense of familiarity with it, just because with Korn, they have a sound and style that's unmistakably them.  When recording this album Jonathan Davis was dealing with the death of his wife, and throughout the album you can really hear his emotions coming through. Plus it's just a solid album that I've enjoyed listening to this year.

So there you have it, my top 5 picks for albums this year! What were your top 5?
