Listen to Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe Guest on Chthonic’s ‘Souls of the Revolution’
Randy Blythe has joined up with Taiwanese metal band Chthonic for the track "Souls of the Revolution," the theme song to the upcoming action-comedy film Tshiong which stars the band and also features the Lamb of God frontman. The movie comes out in Taiwan next Friday (Dec. 29) and the song can be heard above.
According to a press release, Tshiong tells the story of a man from the countryside, A-tek (played by Tsai Chang-hsien), who decides to go to Taipei to seek help from Chthonic when his village faces a malicious development project. Along the way, he becomes Chthonic’s driver. Being a naïve fan of Chthonic, he believed the band members were akin to superheroes and would fight the injustice befalling his village, but gradually he discovers that they are not as courageous as he thought.
Blythe did not have to adopt the role of a character for the film, as he plays himself, befriending A-tek as they're seen clashing with police multiple times during scenes involving street protests. The singer traveled to Taiwan in 2014 to film his parts and first got to know Chthonic as they shared the road together as part of the Ozzfest 2007 lineup.
Vocalist and erhu player Freddy Lim commented, “It's a comedy. Although it might not be easy for foreigners to understand the Taiwanese humor in the film. I'm sure it's still lots of fun watching bunch of metalheads crashing against cops and fooling around.” Touching on Blythe's contributions, he added, “It was wonderful to have our friend in this film with us. Randy did a great job in his role.”
A DVD for the movie with English subtitles is in the works and a teaser trailer for the film featuring Blythe can be viewed below. To pre-order the soundtrack, head here.
