You may only know him as the drummer for Korn, but Ray Luzier has a rich rock history behind the kit and I had the opportunity to talk to him about some of his past projects, newest collaborations, and what bands he has been listening to most recently.

Ray Has Been the Beat Behind Korn for 15 Years

Ray Luzier has been driving the beat for Korn for the last fifteen years and he is a familiar face to rock fans who have seen the band perform live over the years. What you may not realize is that he has also worked with the likes of David Lee Roth, Billy Sheehan, and George Lynch too.

Recently, Ray played on a Pop-Punk song with a young artist with some very deep family roots in the world of Rock n Roll.

I got calls from Jason Bonham... He's a buddy and he's asking me to play on his son's record and I'm like "But you're Jason Bonham, John Bonham's son. Why don't you do it?"  and he's like, "He doesn't want his old man."

...I called my buddy who's a complete Zeppelin freak and I go, "You ready for this? I am playing on John Bonham's grandson's record right now."

Ray plays on "Love Yourself" by Jager Henry, the grandson of arguably one of the greatest drummers in the history of rock music - John Bonham of Led Zeppelin.

Ray's Listening Habits May Just Surprise You

Outside of creating music, Ray is listening to other music too. I was surprised to learn what is in rotation on his current playlist when I asked what he has been listening to lately,

It's very weird and eclectic... they think 'Aw, you listen to all rock and metal," and it's not true. It's funny. On the flight on the way to Los Angeles, we shot another video, and I listened to a Seal record... People are like "Ray Luzier's not going to listen to Seal." Yeah. I love him. I think he's amazing and I love the emotion he gives off... From him to Spiritbox... I love heavy riffs with melodies like that and I think they're one of the better newer bands out there.

He went on to name a few other bands too including Pretty Reckless and British metalcore band, Architects. Perhaps most surprising was Rays' admission that he has also been listening to Chris Stapleton, despite not being a big fan of country music.
