Hear Killswitch Engage's Soaring New Song 'I Am Broken Too'

While they've already engaged with guitar tabs for the tune, Killswitch Engage officially dropped their valiant-sounding new track "I Am Broken Too" on Tuesday (July 16). It's the latest single from the band's upcoming album Atonement, first introduced last month with "Unleashed." Atonement hits Aug. 16 via Metal Blade.

On Instagram, lead vocalist Jesse Leach said the new song is one that "means more to me than almost any other one I have ever written." Not long ago, Leach delved into the cut's thematic origins with Loudwire. See what the singer had to say after listening to "I Am Broken Too" down toward the bottom of this post.

"That song actually is written about somebody else, which was a unique way to deal with it seeing how they processed it and then putting myself in the narrative," Leach revealed. "I'm talking to somebody, it's a conversation that's happening. You kind of need dark times and tragedy to inspire songs that dig that deep. I think anyone can relate to that. If you're happy — if I write a song about happiness it's not gonna really strike you in the same way. I guess you do have to go through pain to write stuff that's that meaty and inspirational."

Earlier this month, former Killswitch vocalist Howard Jones joined Leach onstage during a festival performance. Jones also makes a guest appearance on Atonement. See the band's upcoming tour dates with Clutch below.
