I have an amazing good news story to share but to tell the story properly, we have to go back in time.

Remember Evie Sue?

Evie Sue was a special pup that did a lot during her life to help the city of Evansville. In fact, her name is actually an acronym for Every Volunteer Is Essential and Shape Up Evansville.

EVIE became the mascot for Keep Evansville Beautiful in 2007 after her human mom wrote Retrieving With EVIE which promotes anti-littering.  She is an Honorary Vanderburgh County Deputy Sheriff who has shared her environmental message with over 150,000 children and adults at presentations in Indiana, Tennessee, Florida, and Washington, D.C.

Special Gift of Life

In 2018, Evie and her sibling Vandy Lee presented the Evansville Fire Department with special oxygen masks. These mask kits are specially designed to save the lives of animals that have been exposed to smoke.

One Of Those Masks Was Put To The Test Yesterday Afternoon

Evansville Firefighters were called to a house fire in the 1400 block of Jeanette Avenue. The human family made it out safely, but their furry family member, a kitty cat, was still inside the burning house.

I kept refreshing my newsfeed, hoping for a positive update about the cat. I'm so happy to share the Evansville Fire Department's update about the rescue. You can see what a lifesaver Evie Sue and Vandy Lee's oxygen masks really have been.

We are happy to report that the cat rescued from the residential fire this afternoon is doing fine. After firefighters rescued the cat, gave it some oxygen, and the AMR medical crew American Medical Response of Evansville fed it some water, it was returned to the family within about 45 minutes.[/pullquotes]

Before & After Pictures of Moxie's Miraculous Recovery

Moxie is the perfect name for this puppy - a sweet girl determined to never give up. Her recovery is simply miraculous, and we have the before and after pictures to prove it. Your eyes and your brain will try and convince you that these are two different dogs, but I promise it's the same dog - that's MOXIE.

Just a heads up that the "before" pictures might be difficult to look at for some people, but just know that she is all good now
