You might not think of a grocery store as part of a town's history, but when it is the small town of Princeton, Indiana, it certainly has helped make memories. I know of more than one relationship that actually began in the grocery aisles, too.

When Buehler's Buy Low first opened in the mid-1980s, it was a pretty big deal to have such a large grocery store. There was a pharmacy, a health and beauty section, a floral department, a deli, a bakery, and a VHS rental section. Times have changed.

Princeton IGA Closing

Buehler's Buy Low has been renamed and reset many times over the years. It is currently IGA. One thing that hasn't changed is the delicious fried chicken from the deli. Now that Princeton residents know that IGA is closing on June 14, 2025, in addition to losing another shopping option, there is a sadness for the chicken that you can't find anywhere else. You can find it in Evansville, but that is quite a drive.

IGA Store Manager - From GCNT History's Post

Once again…to clear things up…as the Store Manager of the IGA store in Princeton. Our store IS closing. Saturday, June 14th, is the final day of business. Our store is NOT relocating to the Save A Lot building. Save A Lot was bought by IGA’s parent company, Houchens Industries, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. IGA and Save A Lot are two separate divisions, operated separately. For those of you who shop both stores, you will soon see some of the familiar faces from IGA at Save A Lot. In order to stay close to home, they are transferring into that division of Houchens. Other IGA employees will be transferring to other Houchens-owned IGAs/Buy Low’s. Only a handful decided to seek other employment. For the great-tasting Gabe’s Deli fried chicken and Bakery cakes, please consider visiting Oakland City IGA or taking the short drive to Mount Carmel Buy Low. It’ll be the same products you have always loved. Fuel rewards can still be redeemed at the following locations: Mount Carmel Buy Low, Evansville First Avenue IGA & Jasper IGA. Senior Discount is available at Mount Carmel Buy Low and also at the Evansville First Avenue location.

The building was built in 1906 and was originally a Sanatorium, and then it was Princeton's first hospital until 1962.
