
Kentucky Was Just Ranked Among America’s Least Eco-Friendly States
As you prepare to celebrate Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22nd, you might be interested to know which states are the most and least eco-friendly. The folks at WalletHub certainly think that's something you ought to know. The personal finance site just released another comprehensive report - this time ranking the greenest states in America in 2025.
Why Kentucky is One of the Least Green States in the Country
To determine which states are keeping it the greenest, WalletHub compared each state in 28 key metrics. The results of that study were NOT good for Kentucky - ranking 48th out of 50. Looks like the Bluegrass State could certainly stand to be a little bit greener. Here's a broad look at Kentucky's scores...
- Environmental Quality rank: 37th
- Eco-Friendly Behaviors rank: 47th
- Climate-Change Contributions: 45th
Last year, the U.S. experienced 27 weather and climate disasters that did $1 billion or more in damage each, with the total damage from all events adding up to $182.7 billion. While some disasters are unavoidable, others are exacerbated by humans. It’s possible that living more sustainably and using greener energy sources could prevent us from having quite as bad hurricane seasons in the future – and saving a lot of money in repairs as a result.

The results were not great for Kentucky's neighbors either, with Ohio ranked 29th, followed by Tennessee (35th), Indiana (37th), and West Virginia (50th).
