I know the second semester has just begun, but I promise the end of the 2025-26 school year will be here before you know it. If you’re a parent, that realization probably comes with a mix of excitement, pride, and maybe just a tiny bit of panic. For some families, it means watching a child graduate from high school, middle school, or elementary school. For others, it means getting ready to enroll a child in kindergarten.

A Reassuring Word For Nervous Evansville Parents

If that’s you, the first thing I want you to do is take a deep breath. Speaking as a parent who’s already sent two kids off to kindergarten, I promise your child will be just fine, and so will you. The nerves are normal, the emotions are real, and the milestone is a big one. But before you know it, you’ll be wondering where the time went and laughing about how worried you were.

If you have a child entering the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) for the 2026-27 school year, now is the perfect time to start getting organized. If your child will be five years old on or before August 1, here are a few important dates you’ll want to circle on your calendar.

Key EVSC Enrollment Dates To Mark Now

First up, January 20, 2026. That’s when enrollment officially opens for all new EVSC students, including kindergartners and Pre-K students. This is also the day parents can begin applying for bus transportation. That step is especially important, as school districts across the country - including EVSC - continue to navigate a shortage of bus drivers. Getting those numbers early really helps.

Another important date is April 1, 2026 - that’s when applications open for Extended Day Care services. Space is limited, so if this is something your family will need, you’ll want to jump on it as soon as the application becomes available.

The process is super simple and can be handled online, so once you’re ready to get started, just head to EVSCSchools.com and click on the first Quick Link labeled “Kindergarten Enrollment.” That’s where you’ll find important dates and helpful resources to make the process smooth and stress-free.

30 Bizarre (and Real) Indiana High School Mascots

According to High School.com, there are 682 high schools in Indiana. 555 of those are public schools, while the remaining 127 are private. A majority of those schools have chosen typical mascots to represent them, like eagles, tigers, lions, jets, patriots, and so on and so forth. But, these 30 schools decided to go, well, a different direction.
