Now that spring is here, you’ll be spending more time outside, working hard to get (and keep) your yard looking so fresh and so clean clean. That’s means you’ll likely be trimming hedges, clearing out garden beds, and tackling those pesky weeds – all of which will lead to extra yard waste. More the next few weeks , the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility (EWSU) will take that trash off your hands.

Now through May 3, you can take advantage of the annual Spring Yard Waste Service - a completely free service for eligible EWSU residential customers! Yep, there’s no extra charge regardless of how many bags, containers, or bundles of yard waste you have.

How the Evansville Spring Yard Waste Service Works

Republic Services, the company that handles the city's trash and recycling, will collect your yard waste on your regular trash day. They just ask that you follow these simple guidelines:

  • Place your yard waste next to your City-issued trash cart.
  • Yard waste must be contained in plastic bags or tied in bundles no more than 4 feet long and 2 feet in diameter weighing less than 50 pounds, or loose in containers weighing less than 50 pounds.
  • No special bags are required—just bag it up and set it out!

What Kind of Yard Waste Will Be Accepted?

This program is designed to help you clear out organic yard waste like:

  • Grass clippings
  • Hedge and tree trimmings
  • Weeds, vines, and garden plants
  • However, large tree branches and trunks are NOT accepted

Who is Eligible to Receive This FREE Service?

The Spring Yard Waste Service is available to Evansville residents who pay for trash service through their EWSU water and sewer bill. Unfortunately, apartment complexes, mobile home communities, businesses, and County residents are not eligible.
