Downtown Evansville Welcomed Visitors From All Around The Globe

The Downtown Evansville Economic Improvement District's staff was prepared to host thousands of visitors during the total solar eclipse. We now have some official attendance numbers and some great feedback about Evansville, Indiana.

Once-in-a-Lifetime Event

Our River City welcomed thousands of friendly folks from all over the country, and even the world! Of course, we had over fifty events all around the area, so there was something for everyone. According to research from a data firm, the most concentrated area of visitors was in Downtown Evansville.

Visitors From 27 States and 7 Countries

I can tell you that even with so many people from different areas and backgrounds, the event in Downtown Evansville was a positive experience for everyone. One couple from Birmingham even made a point to stop by the Downtown Evansville tent to compliment our city for its great hospitality.

Thousands joined us in Downtown Evansville for the Total Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8. The largest number of visitors (an estimated 9K+ people) came during the 1-2 PM hour. Placer.ai, our location analytics platform, gathers data from cell phones. Using a complex algorithm, Placer is able to accurately estimate the number of individuals in an area based off of a panel sampling of cell phones. The data is all anonymized and no personal information is shared. Throughout the day, an estimated 17K+ people visited Downtown. We compiled responses from event attendees, along with visitor information from Placer, to show visitor zip codes. To highlight, we welcomed visitors from 27 states and 7 locations outside of the United States. Many visitors shared compliments on the cleanliness of Downtown, the hospitality of Evansville residents and businesses, and an overall appreciation for our neighborhood. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this once-in-a-lifetime experience!
