WATCH: Meteor Creates Sonic Boom Blazing Across the Indiana Sky
Friday night can be a party night. So, if you hear some kind of "boom" outside your home, you might investigate or chalk it up to some neighbors throwing down and having a good time.
Meteor Over Indiana Captured on Video
You might not immediately think "meteor," however. But now that it's come to pass, central Indiana residents will likely be more vigilant about paying attention to astronomical news. What a fun surprise...well...EVENTUALLY a fun surprise. At first, I'm sure it was pretty alarming to see something like this:
Three cheers for quick-thinking Mel Uberto. (And three cheers—in hindsight—to all the Hollywood visual effects teams that have created something like this and done it successfully; I've seen this in movies but never in real life.) Some folks thought it was an explosion; who can blame them?
But wait. Thanks to security and Ring cameras, we have more:
The Geminids Meteor Shower
I'll admit to being a little jealous of those who got a chance to witness another spectacular astronomical occurrence in a year that's given us plenty of them. And what a subtly "Christmassy" event the Geminids meteor shower was. Lights dancing across the sky? Sounds like a theme for your Christmas tree.
The best part? The Geminids meteor shower hasn't even peaked yet. Another good part? This is an annual event, and if you miss it in 2024, book it for 2025. But the peak is happening December 13th and 14th, giving all who fell short a few days ago an opportunity to catch up and witness something extraordinary. Just to be on the safe side, you should bookmark this YouTube live stream, which was set up on December 9th.
It will be ready when the Geminids meteor shower dazzles us once again. Now you can be ready, too.
