A Funny Texting PSA From the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office Nails the Message
I've pretty much decided that, as a driver, nothing infuriates me more than seeing another driver with their phone propped atop the steering wheel. If we're breaking down texting-while-driving trends (none of which are healthy), we seem to have moved away from glancing down at our laps in favor of looking straight at it while we're looking through the windshield.
And the "we" is a figurative "we." Most of the motorists I see on the road do not do this, and, for that, I am thankful.
Texting and Driving
The bottom line is that it can always wait. And if you don't think it is, you can usually pull off the road somewhere and take care of whatever it might be.
When public service announcements about texting and driving are produced for television or streaming, they're often quite sobering. We're usually shown the grim consequences of such actions. They get the point across, and how. And, really, they should be enough to alter habits.
Daviess County Sheriffs' Texting PSA Goes for Humor
There is also room, though, for humorous attempts to ensure drivers (and, in this case, young drivers) adopt new practices. The Daviess County Sheriff's Office understands that and has given us this.
What a great way to reach a specific audience. I'll second the "all jokes aside" from the sheriff's office. And so will the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which tells us that "nearly 80 percent of crashes and 65 percent of near-crashes involve some form of distraction within three seconds before the event."
Repeat after me...
It. Can. Wait.
