Exclusive: RARE Footage of the Blue Angels at the Owensboro Air Show – Relive the Thrills!

Last Thursday, I was in Panama City Beach, Florida for work and happened to be outside on the beach when the Blue Angels flew by. I counted five planes (though there may have been more). I said to my coworker, "I bet they're headed to an air show." As it turns out, the Blue Angels' third show of the season- the Southernmost Air Spectacular- took place over the weekend in Key West. They were indeed off to a show.

I immediately reminisced about last September, when the U.S. Navy Blue Angels roared into Owensboro, Kentucky, to soar above the crowd at the 2024 Owensboro Air Show. Just a few days ago, Preston Monoc, a professional air show photographer and videographer, shared a really cool compilation video of that show. Preston, my friend Chris Conley (also an expert air show photographer) and I spent some time together during that event. We were perched up on the roof of the Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown Owensboro/Waterfront and had a literal bird's-eye view of the action.

THE BLUE ANGELS AT THE OWENSBORO AIR SHOW

Check this out! Preston snagged some incredible footage of the Blue Angels and their Super Hornets at Mid-America Jet (he snagged some RARE start-up footage), but he also got some mind-blowing footage of the show too.

If you'd like to catch the Blue Angels in action in 2025, they have shows planned through November. They opened the '25 season at the NAF El Centro Festival of Flight in El Centro, California. The season finale will take place November 7th and 8th in Pensacola. That's the Blue Angels' Homecoming Air Show.

WHEN IS THE OWENSBORO AIR SHOW?

As for the Owensboro Air Show, it's taking a hiatus this year. However, it is scheduled to return in 2026 and will welcome back to town (and the skies over the Ohio River) the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.
