Will a Third Snowstorm Blow Through Indiana & Kentucky in Jan 2025?
Well, 2025 has been quite the ride so far, right? I mean, an ice storm followed by inches of snow? And that wild fog we had last Thursday? Now, some meteorologists are warning that we might not be done yet – there's talk of another snowstorm crossing the country. The Climate Prediction Center even released this map. And at the top of the map it says, "Risk of HEAVY Snow." Uggg, let's break it down.
Will a Third Snowstorm Hit the Tri-State this Jan?
According to some meteorologists and even a map put together by NOAA, a low-pressure system is expected to move from Texas up through Indiana and Ohio. Most of the country is under a slight risk for a large system.
One trend I've noticed recently is the rise of social media weather forecasters. Now, I know many of them are doing a great job, and I love how they take the time to explain weather patterns and models. Honestly, these eagle-eyed forecasters are really keeping the public – and even state and local governments – on their toes. I’ll give them credit, because despite the power outages, the roads were mostly passable within 24 hours after the ice storm. Back in the 2009 ice storm, we had no warning, and the roads weren’t treated properly, which caused major headaches.
That said, as a media outlet, we rely on Eyewitness News and the National Weather Service for our "official" updates. I checked the NWS forecast for this week, things are going to warm up with highs in the 40s this weekend.

Here’s the breakdown from the National Weather Service:
Friday Night
- Rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. South wind at 8 to 10 mph, becoming west-southwest after midnight.
Saturday
- Chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. West wind around 11 mph, becoming north in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph.
Saturday Night
- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. North wind at 8 to 10 mph.
Sunday
- Partly sunny, with a high near 28. Northwest wind at 9 to 11 mph.
It looks like a nice break from the frigid temps we’re about to get with highs in the 20s today through Wednesday. So, sorry no snow.
UPDATE as of Monday evening, the Climate Prediction Center released this map that indicates NO SNOW.
Whew!
Now, if you are hoping for another snowstorm, we probably can’t be friends – I’m already dreaming of summer. But hey, this is the Ohio River Valley, so anything can happen. It's just a little too early to tell and with different models predicting different things, it's possible. Stay tuned and download our app! And if there's one thing I noticed on Facebook is that people were NOT ready. Here's a list of things you need to get ASAP before another snowstorm hits!
