Henderson, KY Barn Helps Tammy from 1000 Lb Sisters Fulfill Her Horseback Riding Dream
1000 Lb Sisters Gone Country
If you know anything about me, you know that I love horses and I love writing about horses. So, when it popped up in my Facebook feed that a national TV show featured a barn here in the Tri-State, I had to know more.
It's not the first time I've spoken to Blue Moon Stables owner/operator Stacy Denton. A few months ago, her pony Noir was named Horse of the Year by the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association. And I have written about her horse Pinocchio, a former Ellis Park racehorse that found his calling as a therapy horse.
And speaking of Pinocchio, he was one of the stars featured in the opening episode of this season's 1000-Lb. Sisters on TLC.
1000-Lb. Sisters Come to the Tri-State
1000-Lb. Sisters is a reality show on TLC that follows the adventures of Amy and Tammy, two sisters from Western Kentucky who weighed over 1000 pounds together when the show began.
Tammy, who weighed in at 700+ pounds when the show started, has lost more than 500 pounds. Tammy had a dream of riding horses, but it just wasn't possible when she weighed over 700 pounds. But she always had the dream, and this season, it came true for her.
The sisters have been seen around the Tri-State filming multiple times and were recently in places like Tri-State Equine and Vet and Ellis Park to film for the upcoming season.
Tammy Rides a Horse at Blue Moon Stables
Stacy said she isn't sure who referred the production team to her, but it was a great fit.
Stacy not only owns and operates Blue Moon Stables, but also Healing Reins of Kentucky. Her horses are well-versed in nervous riders, and Tammy came in like a frog on a hot skillet.
"This is where we shine. We have a great team of people and phenomenal horses. We have created a sanctuary here, and we want people to feel safe and offer the best experience we can. Our horses have full-time jobs, and most of them do everything from competitions to therapy. They are happy horses, and it shows when they work with people like Tammy."

Tammy's Horseback Riding Dream Finally Came True
Now, I would say that most "reality" shows aren't all that real. They do second and third takes of a shot to get it right, but Stacy said everything they did was a first take. And Tammy's nervousness wasn't just for the camera. You can tell she genuinely had butterflies. But Stacy and her horses are pros.
She and her staff calmly guided Tammy onto her horse, Ned, and helped her feel settled. Her friend rode the famous Pinocchio so the girls could spend some time together being horse girls.
Blue Moon Stables Helps People Check Horseback Riding Off Their Bucket List
Stacy told me that for Tammy, it truly was a bucket list item, and she felt genuine accomplishment riding her horse. She also told me that riding horses is a bucket list item for a lot of people and wants everyone to follow their dreams. She hopes we all strive to make every day like it's your last.
"Make the bucket list. And then do what it takes to accomplish it."
I couldn't agree more.
