Francine to Impact Weather in Indiana & Kentucky [UPDATE]

My daughter absolutely loves horse showing, and we're part of the Warrick Saddle Club, which has these fantastic monthly shows we try not to miss. Sadly, this year’s been a bit of a washout with all the rain causing multiple cancellations. I was really hoping we’d finally get a chance to go this weekend, especially since we’ve had such dry conditions lately. But then I saw a Facebook post from the Club yesterday mentioning they’re keeping an eye on a tropical storm that might hit by the weekend. Rats!

UPDATE: According to Tri-State WX 

We continue to monitor #Francine in the Gulf of Mexico. Models have trended down with precipitation amounts across parts of the area. A developing area of high pressure near the Great Lakes region will continue to strengthen over the next few days. This area of high pressure will put the brakes on the remnants of Francine. The heaviest rainfall will be across portions of Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky.

Yesterday, Wayne Hart posted the following to Facebook:

The disturbance in the western Gulf will become "Francine" and is currently projected to turn to the NNE & impact #tristatewx Friday with the potential for significant rain.

Great... potential for significant rain which means the potential to cancel or reschedule the show. Again...

So, I popped over to see what the National Weather Service had to say.

Dry conditions will continue to produce a heightened risk of fire danger Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon.

A developing tropical system in the western Gulf of Mexico is forecast to strengthen into a tropical storm later today, then reach hurricane status before making landfall around mid week. Remnants of this system may bring beneficial rain to the region later this week. While heavy rainfall is possible, flooding potential should be limited due to the ongoing drought conditions.

A new post from Tristate WX mentions the threat of severe weather, up to 3 inches of rain, damaging winds, and even tornadoes are possible. Great great great!
