My wife and I do a lot of home cooking and are always looking for new kitchen gadgets, knives, and tools to make the process a little easier. My wife loves to bake, so this past Christmas I bought her the Deluxe Model Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer (husband flex). She says the new appliance has made baking a lot easier, but given the amount of goodies that have come out of that thing, I think I was the real gift recipient.

Over the past several weeks, I'd been scrolling on TikTok only to be met with an ad for a new rotary cheese grater every few videos. It looked like a larger, at-home version of what Olive Garden uses to shred fresh Parmesan over pasta. Eventually, I clicked on the ad just to see the price, but I wasn't quite on board with the product just yet. The ads quickly became more frequent until TikTok finally wore me down and bullied me into buying the fancy shredder. So, if you want some honest feedback from a guy who just wanted to cut some cheese (insert dad joke here), then this is for you.

Before going any further, I think it's important to note that my wife and I use a lot of shredded cheese. Some staples at our house include homemade tacos, pizza, smoked mac and cheese, loaded baked potatoes, breakfast skillets, and so on. We usually shred our own cheese with a handheld grater simply because the pre-packaged cheese doesn't yield the results we would like when melted. That's because, according to Cabot Creamery, pre-shredded cheese contains ingredients like potato starch and natamycin, which keep the cheese from clumping together.

As soon as my new rotary shredder arrived, I wasted no time trying it out. It comes in several colors, but we went with the light blue color to match our stand mixer. Upon some easy assembly, it was ready to be put to work. I was a bit skeptical at first because the device felt like it was made of cheap plastic. However, as soon as I put a block of sharp cheddar on the blade and began cranking the handle, I knew I would never struggle with shredding cheese again. It plowed through the entire block in a matter of seconds and has since massacred several other blocks as well.

The shredder came with three different drum blades, which included a small and large shredder, along with an actual slicer. All three are great for cutting vegetables, such as carrots, cucumbers, or onions. I've even sliced and shredded some potatoes with ease thanks to this little contraption. In addition, there is a suction cup on the bottom that temporarily seals the device to your kitchen counter, so it's entirely stable while you crank.

This rotary grater cuts like butter, and the fact that it only set me back about $15 on the TikTok shop was also a major plus. However, you don't need a TikTok account to get this wonderful piece of engineering. Walmart and Amazon, along with several other big retailers, have the same or similar products listed on their websites. It's definitely a game-changer.
