Indiana Among States Most Likely to Win Powerball

If you are an avid Powerball player and you purchase your tickets in Indiana, your chances of winning are higher than in most states.

We all know someone who is always running to the gas station weekly or daily to get some lottery tickets. I can't tell you how often I go into the gas station and see someone purchasing multiple Powerball tickets at a time, especially when the pot is at record highs. It's rare that I purchase tickets because I know the odds aren't in my favor. Even though I've played the scenario out of "if I hit the lottery" multiple times. You and I both dream of winning the lottery, but you have to play to win, right?

Well, a new study revealed the states with the highest chances of winning the Powerball among the 45 U.S. states where the lottery game is played. As it turns out, the odds of winning the Powerball in Indiana are among the highest in the nation. Who would have ever thought that?!

The Odds of Winning Powerball in Indiana

According to the New York Times, A study conducted by CSDB.gg looked at Powerball data from 1992-2025 to help them figure out where someone has to live to have the highest likelihood of winning either the Match 5, Match 5+ Power Play or Powerball jackpot per 100,000 residents.

Rhode Island led all states with 427 total Powerball wins during the last 33 years. West Virginia ranked second with 483 total wins, which was an average of 27.29 wins per 100,000 residents. Delaware and New Hampshire each totaled 285 total Powerball wins. Indiana ranked fifth with 18.41 wins per 100,000 natives. That's pretty good news for diehard Powerball players in the Hoosier State!

On the flip side, there are five very unlucky states where the chances of a resident there ever hitting that Powerball jackpot are extremely low. Those states (from best to worst) are California, Texas, Wyoming, Washington, and Mississippi, according to the New York Times. So, just be grateful that Indiana is not among that list of states.

Perhaps this news might be the boost of confidence you need to go out and purchase that Powerball ticket. Who knows, maybe it will be the winning ticket! I mean, the odds are in Indiana's favor...
