Themed Hotel Rooms

Themed hotel rooms are exactly what they sound like, rooms that are decorated to surround a theme.  We don't see many themed hotels anymore, but we do often see themed rentals through places like Airbnb. I mean even just in Owensboro there is a Dolly Parton-themed getaway that would make for the perfect bachelorette party.   What we don't quite see as much of anymore are themed hotel rooms, but at one point in time themed hotels were all the rage.

According to House and Garden, there was a time after World War II when America entered an "era of escape and fantasy" where luxuries like vacations were finally affordable for the middle class.   Some popular getaways were places that were easily within driving distance, so the idea of themed hotels started taking off.

Indiana's Hotel With "Secret" Themed Rooms

While themed hotel rooms aren't quite as popular as they once were, there are still folks who seek out themed rooms even though they can be tough to find.   Located in Elkhart, Indiana sits a Comfort Suites that seems normal from the outside, but a few of their room options are anything but cookie cutter!

I found out about the Elkhart, Indiana theme rooms thanks to a TikTok account I follow, that shows off unique hotel stays across the country.  Fittingly, this TikTok account is called APrettyCoolHotelTour.  Recently they made a stop at the Comfort Suites and found that they had three "fantasy" rooms available, a Taj Mahal Fantasy Suite (pictured below), a Roman Fantasy Suite, and a Hawaiian Fantasy Suite (pictured below).   While they aren't really "secret" rooms, I found it interesting that there's no mention of these rooms on the Comfort Suites website, just a few photos of the rooms as you scroll through their gallery of images.  Check out a few photos of the rooms below, and if you'd like to book with them you can check out ChoiceHotels.com.
