Summer in the Tri-State can be downright brutal at times. Thanks to the humidity we almost constantly deal with, high temperatures in the upper 80s to lower 90s often feel much hotter than that. If you've lived here long enough, you know there are times when the humidity is so thick it almost literally takes your breath away and you start to sweat the moment you step outside. Now imagine trying to handle that heat while wearing a bulletproof vest or thick clothing designed to protect you from the potential dangers you may encounter during your workday. I imagine it would be like wearing a sock hat, gloves, and a heavy coat in the middle of August which makes me sweat just thinking about it. However, that's exactly what our first responders around the area have to deal with every day during this time of year.

Despite putting their own health at risk to help those in trouble, police officers, firefighters, and paramedics/EMTs are human just like the rest of us, and if they don't stay properly hydrated while on the job, their bodies will shut down and they won't be able to help anybody. That's where you can help.
