Helping The Hungry Food Drive in Henderson on November 21st
It's that time of year again when you can lend folks in the Henderson area a helping hand for the holidays with the annual Helping the Hungry Food Drive.
The holiday season is always a good time to take a moment to be thankful for the things we have. In this case, the ability to put food on the table and feed our families. It's something that many of us might take for granted. However, it's more evident this year, with recent events, that not everyone in our community has that ability. So, for those with the means, the least we can do is lend them a helping hand.
Food Insecurity in Kentucky
The rising cost of everything, as well as the recent SNAP benefits scare, has left many families here in the Tri-State dealing with food insecurity, some of which may have never dealt with it before. According to Feeding America, 753,410 people in Kentucky are facing hunger, and 213,830 of them are children. That's one in every six people and one in every five kids.

Closer to home, Feeding America says Henderson County has a 17.8% food insecurity rate, which is equal to 7,930 residents. In Daviess County, 16.4%, or 16,970, are dealing with it. 19.5% or 2,600 residents in Union County are struggling, and in Webster County, the number is 2,290, or 17.8%. That's 21,920 people in total, which in my opinion, is 29,790 too many.
2025 Helping the Hungry Can Food Drive
If you're fortunate to be someone who isn't dealing with food insecurity, we have a way you can help those who are. We've teamed up with our friends at Henderson Chevrolet, GMC and Kate Faupel Ford, once again, for the annual Helping the Hungry Can Food Drive at Sureway Foods.
This year's drive will take place from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM on Friday, November 21st. We'll be broadcasting throughout the day from the Sureway Foods location on 2nd Street across from Henderson North Middle School, with large bins where you can drop off your donation. Donations will also be accepted at both dealerships as well.
All donations will be turned over to the Henderson Christian Community Outreach, which will make sure they get distributed to families in need ahead of the holiday season. If you don't have time to shop, we'll also be accepting monetary donations and will gladly do the shopping for you.
