Every year, the Salvation Army partners with local businesses and organizations to collect and distribute toys to those in need around the holidays. According to a press release, the large-scale toy campaign required thousands of man-hours and resources to accomplish, all leading up to a big shopping-style event before Christmas. In total, the organization says they collected around 18,000 gifts, which served a great number of families in the tri-state.
Toy Town Serves More Than 1,100 Families During Christmas 2024
The annual event not only reflected the season of giving, but also showed just how much the community cares for its neighbors. In fact, over 1,100 families were served in 2024, with more than 2,900 children receiving gifts. The Salvation Army said in a press release that the annual Toy Town program made it possible for parents and guardians to provide a joyful Christmas despite challenges like overdue bills, job losses, and health battles.
“Thank you to the community for your support of the 2024 Toy Town campaign,” said Capt. Brandon Lewis, corps officer and Southwest Indiana area coordinator for the Salvation Army. “Your generosity changed lives and gave hope and joy to thousands this holiday season. We couldn’t have done it without you, so thank you for helping make the holidays brighter for so many in need!”

Salvation Army Blessed with Record-Breaking Number of Volunteers
In addition to helping so many area families, the event also featured more volunteers than ever before. The team of dedicated folks was led by Salvation Army staff, who report they were able to create the most organized and joy-filled distribution event in recent years. Many families even shared their personal experiences with the Salvation Army after receiving their gifts.
My husband had a medical emergency this year and is currently unable to work. This made it hard for us this year to have a Christmas for the kids. This program helped out sooo much! I also had the nicest volunteer help me navigate the lines, and such a nice young student volunteer help take gifts to my truck! Everyone was in such good spirits and that was so refreshing!
