Big Changes Coming to the Lloyd Expressway This Week
As you know, construction on the Lloyd Expressway in Evansville has been ongoing for a while, but some major changes, a little relief are coming this week.
If you have driven along the Lloyd Expressway over the past year or so, you have most certainly noticed all of the construction. These projects are all a part of TheLloyd4U initiative. This includes more than a dozen improvement projects along the Lloyd Expressway, including intersection improvements, bridge replacements, pavement replacements, and more.
The changes aim to help traffic flow better along the Lloyd Expressway. As you know, the most recent change was the displaced left turn intersection at State Road 66 and Epworth Road, which opened a few months back. Recently, crews have been working hard at the Stockwell intersection to get that displaced left turn up and running. Well, we have some good news regarding that, and some other big changes that are happening on the Lloyd this week.
Major Changes on the Lloyd Expressway
According to a recent update from TheLloyd4U, there will be a lot happening on the Lloyd Expressway this week. Of course, all of this is weather permitting, and since we do have a week full of rain, some of this could be delayed. However, as it stands, here's what TheLloyd4U says motorists in Evansville can expect on the Lloyd Expressway this week:
Tuesday, June 17: Left turns from eastbound Lloyd to northbound Stockwell will be temporarily prohibited for approximately one day to prepare for the opening of the redesigned Stockwell intersection.
Wednesday, June 18: After the morning peak travel period, crews will switch traffic to the new redesigned intersection at Stockwell Road and the Lloyd. Law enforcement officers will be on site to encourage traffic calming. With the new design, eastbound motorists wanting to go north on Stockwell will enter left turn lanes shortly after crossing Vann Avenue, well BEFORE the main intersection. Pay attention to signs and pavement markings to avoid missing your opportunity to go north. Westbound motorists wanting to go south on Stockwell will enter the left turn lane AFTER crossing through the Stockwell intersection.
Thursday, June 19: Rolling closures are planned as new pavement striping is added to the Lloyd between the Pigeon Creek Bridge and Stockwell Road.
Wednesday, June 18: Middle Mt. Vernon Road on the north side will be closed on this day or shortly after and be closed for at least 14 days. The detour will be Schutte Road.
Ongoing work:
Ramps for westbound Lloyd Expressway onto southbound U.S. 41 and southbound U.S. 41 onto the westbound Lloyd closed for approximately three weeks.
Westbound University Parkway double-ramp closures continue through mid-July.
Having that intersection at Stockwell finally open will be a relief for all drivers who commute along the Lloyd. That being said, we still have a way to go before those orange barrels are completely gone from the Lloyd Expressway with this project. You can take a look at the Lloyd4U project on the map below:
